Apply for Certificate

To apply for a Nebraska Certificate, you must be a resident of Nebraska, have a place of business or be regularly employed in the state (Reference: Nebraska statutes PAA 1-114).

NE Exam Candidates

Candidates should complete the below items following successful completion of the CPA Exam as a Nebraska candidate.

Steps to apply for a Certificate by Exam:

  1. Ethics Exams - You will need to provide your answers to the Board Ethics Exam and attach your completion certificate for the AICPA Ethics Exam in your Certificate by Exam application.
    1. Nebraska Board of Public Accountancy Ethics Exam
    2.      Professional Ethics: The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Comprehensive Course (For Licensure)
  2. Submit your Certificate by Exam Application - This link will take you to the Certemy website to create an account and submit the Certificate by Exam application.

Reciprocal Candidates with less than 4 years of experience

Reciprocal candidates must be the holder of a certificate as a certified public accountant in full force and effect in at least one state and should complete the following items.

Steps to apply for a Reciprocal Certificate:

  1. Authorization for Interstate Exchange of Examination and Licensure Information  – This should be completed by the Board where original licensure was obtained. Please check with that Board to see if there is a fee for them to complete this form.
  2. All transcripts need to be sent to the NE Board by the institutions – They may be emailed securely by the institution to nbpa.office@nebraska.gov or mailed to P.O. Box 94725, Lincoln, NE 68509.
  3. Submit your Reciprocal Certificate Application - This link will take you to the Certemy website to create an account and submit the Reciprocal Certificate application.

Reciprocal Candidates with more than 4 years of experience

Reciprocal candidates must be the holder of a certificate as a certified public accountant in full force and effect in at least one state and should complete the following items.

Steps to apply for a Reciprocal Certificate "4 in 10":

  1. "4 in 10" Authorization for Interstate Exchange of Examination and Licensure Information – This should be completed by the Board where original licensure was obtained. Please check with that Board to see if there is a fee for them to complete this form.
  2. Certificate of Public Accounting Experience Under PAA 1-124b Four in Ten
  3.   Submit your Reciprocal Certificate "4 in 10" Application - This link will take you to the Certemy website to create an account and submit the Reciprocal Certificate "4 in 10" application.
